Welcome to My Counseling Practice

Karen Godfrey Choate, Energy Psychology Therapist
in Indianapolis & Surrounding Areas

As an integrative psychotherapist, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), Psych-K® facilitator training, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and received certification (DCEP) in Comprehensive Energy Psychology in 2013.

In 2009, I obtained my clinical social work license through the state of Indiana.

I was able to correct my own neurological disorganization and release several limiting beliefs that had interfered with my personal and work relationships.

I then used the tools I learned for my own positive self-care and in 2010, I attended my first Energy Psychology conference as a clinician.

I was able to correct my own neurological disorganization and release several limiting beliefs that had interfered with my personal and work relationships.

From self-reports, my clients have been able to lower their emotional distress, make progress with mindfulness/calming techniques, realize their goals and use the tools to find balance for emotional self-regulation.

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy Psychology (EP) acknowledges the bio-energetic system within a behavioral and cognitive framework and is in the family of integrative approaches rooted in a mind-body holistic approach. “It is a set of clinical and self- help approaches that integrates cognitive and exposure techniques with methods drawn from ancient healing and spiritual traditions, such as acupuncture and yoga, collectively known as energy psychology.” (David Feinstein, PhD).

Practitioners integrate cognitive interventions (including focused awareness, imaginal exposure to traumatic memories and cognitive reframing), with the simultaneous stimulation of one or more of the human bio-energy systems. These include meridian pathways, chakras, and the bio-field. Tapping acupressure points can be self-administered.

I feel passionate about incorporating energy psychology techniques in my practice due to my clients’ responses. One client reported:
I cannot believe how completely my fears and resistance have melted away. I now feel excitement and anticipation. Wow!” My clients were able to move beyond self-defeating beliefs and behaviors, able to lower their emotional distress, and learn to center themselves energetically.
